LET IT RAIN

By Swedish design studio Asshoff & Brogård, 2009

I love raindrops. They find a way into my paintings, designs and doodles. So, when I came across this adorable idea, I had to share. Mmmight have to steal this idea for my next apartment.

THE WILD UNKNOWN

Aren't these lovely???

I'm in awe of these wonderful little handmade prisms filled with wonderful little things. They'd make a great gift (for me, of course!)

“Our work is inspired by summers spent in the Catskill Mountains and on the shores of Lake Superior. We hope The Wild Unknown items bring you moments of solitude and wonder, wherever you are.”
– The Wild Unknown

KOREFE + THE DELI GARAGE

Chocolate sauce in a glue bottle?
Pasta in a screw box?
Truffle oil fit for the Tin Man?

Oh my.

German design agency, Korefe, created these INCREDIBLY LOVABLY CUTE YET MANLY (grrr) designs that I'm simply crazy about. They're for The Deli Garage, so Korefe reflected the company name by housing all of the products in packaging that you might find at your local Aamco.

Unappetizing? Who cares? Pass the honey please!

SIDEWALK FINDINGS:
TRIBECA EDITION

Spotted this tiny sign while passing by the Rogan Jeans offices last week. As you enter through the main door, it reads "Rogan". Upon exiting, it reads "Adios".

Ah, the simple genius of an accordion fold. Bloody cleva.

JULIAN SCHNABEL

...and his Palazzo Chupi.

Really, what's not to love? While directing one of my favorite films of 2007, The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, Schnabel helped to design this pinkish-red architectural bit of loveliness, located in Soho. The director/painter was inspired by American architects Addison Mizner and Stanford White.

What do I love about it? How about the layers of lively color and lovely texture, those wood panels on the walls and how they relate to the black and white tiled floors, the AMAZING artwork (yes, those are Picassos...although the Femme au Chapeau will be auctioned at Christie's...)

In one word, it's luscious.

Visit it yourself at 360 West 11th Street. Or just go here.

COOLEST.
THING.
EVER.

And I say that with confidence.

Four years ago, Dutch artists Jeroen Koolhaas and Dre Urhahn challenged the stigma that Rio's favelas (slums) hold as dangerous, drug-infested places to avoid. By now, we've all seen City of God, right? Well, 1/3 of Rio's population call these hillside urban
areas home.

The duo's goal was to shine light on the hard-working inhabitants of these areas, to promote the opinion that they're centers of Brazilian culture, and to improve the public's general view of them. They call it Favela Painting.

The above images are from Praça Cantão in Santa Marta that was completed on March 29th. The bright pastel colors and bold white stripes make it look like some other-worldly wonderland. It's SO breathtaking!

GET LOST

Farm Garden with Sunflowers by Gustav Klimt

I'd like to get lost in this.

Can you imagine having a HUGE print of this? So lovely.

SIDEWALK FINDINGS:
HOYT STREET EDITION

Stumbled upon a lovely little sign for a lovely little Montreal Jewish delicatessen called Mile End. I have no idea what the difference is between a Montreal Jewish deli and a New York Jewish deli, but who cares? They serve bagels AND Stumptown coffee. It doesn't take much to keep my and my belly happy.

Bagels or not, I'm so in love with the inky, fluid type on this sign. I'm not sure if it's hand done or if its some typeface (that I MUST get my hands on)...
