These sort of remind me of Bliss's photos that I posted
a few days ago...

But much more moody, muddy...quietly beautiful.

What can I say? Feeling a certain way, I suppose.

CIRCA PUERTO RICO '10

Don't we all wish we were in Puerto Rico right now??

Well, for those lucky ducks that are, CIRCA Puerto Rico '10 is happening RIGHT NOW at the Puerto Rico Convention Center in
San Juan.

While highlighting Caribbean art, the show is not exclusive to it. Participating galleries stem from all over the world.

Latin and Caribbean art doesn't seem to get their just praise and press, here in the states anyway. So, here's your chance to revel in it.

And while you're there, pick up some mofongo for me, will you?
Pork, please!

See more about the show here.

TROPICALIA BY MOROSO

This winter weather must be affecting me....lately all I can think of is sun, beach and more sun. So naturally, when I came across these FABULOUS chairs by Patricia Urquiola for Italian furniture company, Moroso, I did a little dance in my seat.

To be honest, when I think of Italian furniture design, I usually cringe. I've learned to associate it with massive leather couches in unsavory colors, weird lacquered surfaces and an overall feeling of ostentatiousness. This is a broad statement, I know. Sorry, Italy.
If it helps, I'm a huge sucker for espresso and pesto.

Anyway, these chairs simply make me happy. They energize me and make me want to dig out my purple plastic sunglasses. I'm mesmerized by the patterns created by the weaving and by the luscious candy-like color combinations.

See more from Moroso here.

DANNY LYON /
THE BIKERIDERS

Armed with a Nikon F camera and perhaps a tub of hair grease, Danny Lyon documented his life with the Chicago Outlaw Motorcycle Club in 1968 with his book, The Bikeriders.

You MUST check these out (thanks Selvedge Yard!).
They're beyond words.

TMNK...

...Short for "The Me Nobody Knows". New York based TMNK is sort of a mystery. It seems to be a conscious decision on his part to stay out of the spotlight, letting his art speak for itself. He dubs his work
"urban hieroglyphics".

There's something about his work that elicits a sense of heaviness in my chest. The child-like forms and simple shapes give way to a deeper, more complex story.

Check out his blog to view more of his work.

These just make me happy. Immensely.

Perhaps I should just go ahead and create an "Owl" category?

SARAGHINA

Tonight, I had THE MOST wonderful dinner at a little Bed Stuy gem, called Saraghina. The Napolitano-style black olive (yes), sausage (yes), buffalo mozzarella (yes!) and hot pepper oil (YES!!) pizza was TO DIE FOR. But what really blew me away was the interior.

Unfortunately, I didn't have my camera on me, so I had to pull these images from the web. Obviously, they were all taken in daylight. Although beautiful by day, at night it takes on a completely
different feel.

Let's set the scene...shall we?

Flickering candlelight, whitewashed walls, glass paneled cabinets displaying row upon row of clear and blue stained glass bottles,
small mismatched tables paired with mismatched chairs, raw unfinished wood, over-sized vintage signage, shelves filled with
retro cookbooks...

It has a utilitarian barn-like feel, but quite modernized (could be
due to the copious amounts of white-ness), super romantic and incredibly intimate.

To be honest, I'm hesitant to even post this, out of fear that this little gem will get too much attention...and then I'll have to wait eons for a table the next time I go! But caring is sharing, right?

I'm not posting the address though. Find that on your own. :)

THE RED BOOK

I’m sooo excited about this.

On display at the Rubin Museum are images from Swiss psychologist, C.G. Jung’s, 205-page Red Book. It was published in 2009, but it was written and illustrated between 1914 and 1930. It contains Jung’s theories on collective unconscious, and other areas
of psychology.

To better convey his ideas, he created GORGEOUS, brightly-colored, geometric illustrations, that are now being shown for the first time to a public audience. By the way, I’m CRAZY (no pun intended) over that middle image.

Catch it while you can…the show ends on February 15, 2010.

I WANT TO LIVE
IN THIS WORLD...

Sony Bravia commercial.
Director: Frank Budgen. Creative Director: Juan Cabral

Don't you looooove this? I still do, 3 years later.

If you've ever read Julio Cortázar's short story, Letter to a Young Lady in Paris, those cute little bunnies won't appear so cute and little. They'd have a whole separate significance...

Check out the "making of" below:

2046

Stills from Wong Kar Wai's film, "2046" (2004)

I saw this film a couple of years ago, and while I couldn't quite wrap my head around the twisty turvy plot and equally twisty turvy characters, I'm completely unable to erase the GORGEOUS imagery from my memory.

Moody and sultry, the above stills have a way of grabbing my heart and keeping me from looking away.

WILHELM STAEHLE

(Make sure you click on each image to view them larger.
Devil's in the details...)

i. am. crazy. over. these.

In what he dubs Silhouette Masterpiece Theatre, Staehle has created a morbid little world by mixing and mashing vintage postcards with his own papercut figures.

The result? A genius set of imagery that evokes incessant giggles.

See more here. They're ALL hilarious!

OH! And by the way, Wilhelm is THE lonewolfblacksheep.
