SIDEWALK FINDINGS:
ASTORIA EDITION

Queens and baseball. Two things I never do, and yesterday I did them both. Very out of character for me, but my Shake Shack burger at Citi Field made up for it.

On the way back home, I passed by this SUPER CUTE sign outside of Sage Grocery. Hand painted and adorable, it doubles a menu. The sign alone made me more inclined to actually have some of their food. I'm the same way with wine labels.

See it in its entirety on their site, here. My favorites are the "Spit-Roasted Birds" and the "Buckles Slumps & Grunts". Too bad I was too full to try any of it!

MANGA PLANTA

So, I'm nnnnot really sure what to make of this. Something about it is slightly unsettling to me. However, it is an interesting concept, so I thought I'd share.

Koshi Kawachi, a Tokyo-based artist, created these "planters" out of repurposed manga. The examples above are radish sprouts.

He calls it "Manga Farming". I call it weird.

BUT, in a world where we all need to learn to become a bit (lot) greener, this project is very inspiring. And there is something nice about how the delicate sprouts play on the surface of the super graphic black and white manga.

Check out his site here (and fall completely in love with his logo, as I have....SO cute.)

BUTCH ANTHONY....

I'm waiting.

I'm waiting for you to come fetch me on your Alabaman horse and wisk me away to your 80-acre Alabaman compound, where we can sit barefoot on your Alabaman porch and shuck corn.

Not that I think I belong in Alabama. But I do belong in that house.

Folksy, yes. But there's a definite modern touch, which makes it verrryyy interesting. I mean, check out that wide, white platform bed flounced by antique chairs. And the old sink surrounded by a group of very bold and humorous art pieces.

And who's Butch? He's a 46-year-old self-taught artist to whom this beautiful house belongs. He wears denim overalls every day.

I could too.

Read/see/love more here.

We photographers deal in things which are continually vanishing, and when they have vanished there is no contrivance on earth can make them come back again. We cannot develop and print a memory.
— Henri Cartier-Bresson

Every time I see a Bresson piece, my heart just stops for a moment.

There's a show at the MoMA, called Henri Cartier-Bresson:
The Modern Century, up until June 28. Maybe I'll see you there...

See more about the show here.

FLAMING LIPS

I spotted this while strolling along The High Line yesterday. Can't say I ever noticed this Diane Von Furstenburg mural before, but I totally heart it.

I LOVE THIS...

...and I don't know what it says nor who it's by.

All I know is that it was created for an exhibition in Manila. And that it's in Japanese (...right?)

I love all of the patterns inside the letterforms, and how the bold, colorful shapes are laid over such delicate moons and stars. The colors are LOVELY. And look at those teeny hands at the ends of the characters! Ah! Love.

YOU KNOW YOU WANT THIS...

...just as badly as I do.

The Emotion Lab came up with the Moonwatch, which "has been designed to establish a relationship between the moon cycle and a person’s emotional states. It’s a new concept of time based on nature which invites people to reflect upon and gain a closer understanding of their mood and daily life on earth."

Holy crap.

The simplest ideas are always the most compelling.

JANE JOSS, HOW DO YOU
KNOW ME SO WELL?

Sort of odd, but I sort of love them.

Jane Joss (an alias for sisters-in-law Alyssa and Joslyn Krismer) creates these strange little guys that I can't seem to avert my
eyes from...

For someone like me, who sadly, has a very un-green thumb,
these creations are perfect.

I'll take the houndstooth, please!

See/buy here.

THE WAY TO MY HEART

Holy Moly.

I have totally been hiding away, working, working, working. No complaints here....I love what I do. BUT, I also love frolicking around in beautiful 75 degree weather!

That being said, when things calm dawn, I have to make it to make it to the Museum of Art and Design to see their Portable Treasuries show. Jewelry collectors, Daniel and Serga Nadler have lent part of their extensive silver collection to the museum. The pieces stem from North Africa, the Indian Subcontinent, and Southeast Asia...and they are absolutely TO DIE FOR.

Just check out those beauts above. I'm drooling.

And check out the show...it's up until August 8.
